Pannonhalma is a small village (city) near to Győr, ca. 1,5 hours from Budapest. It is on the way to the Balaton and it is famous for the Benedictine Archabbey that is the second largest territorial abbey in the world, after the one in Monte Cassino. The Abbey is one of the oldest historical monuments of Hungary.
It was founded in 996 by Prince Géza on Mount Saint Martin.
Its sights include the Basilica and the Crypt, the Baroque Refectory, the monumental Library and the Cloisters.
The building is surrounded by untouched nature. In front of the main entrance you can find the Botanical Garden with touring routes and Tee House.
The Abbey developed a lot in the last 10 years so now you can enjoy not only the calmness and beauties of this amazing place but you can spend a night in they hostel or enjoy the excellent wine of the Abbes!🍷
